The Kitchen CT9
empowering the community through food
The Kitchen provides a place where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together around the shared experience of food.
We use food surplus to tackle the issue of food poverty and inequality, ensuring our food is financially accessible to all.
We believe that good food doesn’t have to be expensive.
We know that how much people have to spend on food varies widely which is why all our prices are Pay-As-You-Feel?. This means that those who can, help those who need a little extra support.
Its not just about food. It’s about using it to bring people together.
At The Kitchen
We work with FareShare UK, a national charity supporting communities to relieve food poverty. They collect surplus fit for purpose? products from the food and drink industry and redistribute them to organisations working with disadvantaged people in the community.
We take the produce they supply and use it to create delicious, low cost dishes for everyone to enjoy. We also work with a number of amazing local restaurants, cafes, caterers and other food businesses to repurpose their surplus.
The average family waste 470 tonnes of food per year, meanwhile some 4m people live in food poverty.
The Community Fridge is a simple response.
Members of the public drop off good but unwanted food. We check it is safe to eat, and that the packaging is undamaged. We store it in the fridge or freezer as appropriate.
Anyone can help themselves to what is on the shelf.
The overall commitment of Thanet Iceberg to reduce, reuse and recycle is especially important to us. We are determined to do our part to help keep our coastline free from waste.
The Kitchen CT9 is proud to be registered as a public drop off/collection point for a number of TerraCycle schemes for hard-to-recycle products.
